Corporate Milestone

Early 1990s – Building a foundation

Initially specialising in trading carton and plastic waste, JISO Enterprise began its venture into industrial metal waste disposal and recycling services in 1990, providing a suite of comprising of handling, reprocessing, and recycling of solder dross, electronics waste, and metal alloys scrap materials.

1993 - 1995 – Increasing stakes

In 1993, the organisation saw a golden opportunity for growth and expanded its reaches to Malaysia. Its sister company SMC Technology Sdn Bhd was born in Pontian, Johor Bahru, occupying a land area of 65,000 square feet. The first industrial waste management plant commenced operations in 1996 and has since proliferated in numbers and strength.

Today, the facility specialises in Electronic Waste (E-Waste) Collection with full recovery facilities and is the trusted partner of giants in the Electronics and Lead frame industries.

Following its sister company, JISO Enterprise was renamed SMC Industrial Pte Ltd in 1995. With a S$1 million capital increase, SMCI increased its stakes in Singapore by setting up a 15,000 square feet management facility located at No. 23 Kian Teck Way. In 2005, this facility was further expanded to include a neighbouring land premise, No. 21 Kian Teck Way. The integrated facility boasts a total land area of 30,000 square feet.

1998 – The first of its kind

SMCI Group spearheaded the move into spent catalyst recovery and built the first plant in Asia. The spent catalyst waste recovery plant is the first of its kind that services the oil and gas industries in Malaysia.

2006 - 2009 – Expansion

SMCI looked beyond its shores to strengthen its regional network, settling on Qing Yuan, Guangdong, to house its new investment, a copper smelting plant. The 862,000 square feet facility was up and running by 2009. SMCI did not stop there. In the same year, it began construction for a new nickel smelting plant in Zhejiang, Taizhou. Operations in the new facility covering 360,000 square feet commenced in 2012.

At the same time, the Malaysian counterpart also expanded its grounds to meet increasing demands and its capacities. The facility was expanded from 65,000 to 135,000 square feet and boasts increased capacity and a wider spectrum of capabilities, including the handling and processing of metals dross and sludge recycling, and electronics waste full recovery.

The rapid growth of SMCI also spurred the need for an even bigger space in Singapore. In July 2008, SMCI moved to its new headquarter premises located at 16, Tuas Avenue 20. The 58,000 square feet facility is home to 50 staff today.
